Q: What does your company do and how long has it been in operation?
A: Alpheus operates the most extensive competitive deep metro fiber footprint in Texas, with more than 6,000 route miles of long haul and metro fiber within and between all the major Texas cities: Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, Fort Worth and Corpus Christi. We provide lit services DS-1 through OC-192 over a core fiber network with a “last mile toolkit” that optimizes access strategies, high capacity Ethernet up to 10 Gbps, colocation, and active fault management. Alpheus also provides carrier-grade data center facilities in Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth and Austin.
Q: To what do you attribute your company’s success in the communications industry?
A: We provide a limited number of products across a very reliable, all-optical network within the fastest growing metro markets. As a carrier-built network, we are present at almost all of the highly-liquid bandwidth points in Texas. Our responsive customer service, flexibility, and speed in provisioning are important differentiators.
Q: What have been the biggest obstacles your company has faced in the marketplace?
A: Cost effective last mile access to the marginal endpoint is always the challenge.
Q: What do you see as your greatest challenges going forward?
A: Managing growth, while controlling capital expenditures.
Q: What have been some of your company’s most recent achievements (new customer wins, new service/product deployment, etc.)?
A: We recently launched our ubiquitous Metro Ethernet offering, serving both carrier and the enterprise customers with low, medium and high bandwidth Ethernet.
Q: Why is it important for your company to be a COMPTEL member?
A: Alpheus is dedicated to non-discriminatory access to central offices and commercial buildings, as well as equitable interconnection between carriers. We believe COMPTEL can sustain that message effectively in Washington.
